Snow Days!

4 days and counting inside the house and playing in the snow. Wednesday was the snowiest day with high winds and constant snowfall. But that didn't stop us from getting out in the snow and enjoying some sledding as well as a walk down to our local coffee house for hot cocoa and a little break from being in our new house, cabin fever is cabin fever regardless of location. :-) Enjoy these photos from our adventures.

The leaves have changed and we are in full holiday mode. This is my favorite time of year, cooler weather, pumpkins and Halloween. Attached are photos of our trip to the pumpkin patch. Sophia had a wonderful time wandering through the field looking for the perfect pumpkin. Vivian was content to ride in the wheelbarrow while her dad pushed her around. We also went all out with our costumes this year. Sophia had two costumes, Kitty Softpaws and Barbie Charm School. Vivian was the classic cat while Jesse was Puss in Boots and I was Snow White. Enjoy the photos.

Summer here in the Pacific Northwest is drawing to a close. We had a wonderful 2 weeks traveling to Portland, Mt. Hood, Sedona, and camping at Coal Creek in the West side of the Cascades. We packed it all in and had a wonderful time. Sophia and Vivian are seasoned travelers, not a wimper between them taking off, in flight or landing. Phew! We are settled at home this weekend, enjoying our photos and the joys of being at home with no plans. Enjoy the photos, we enjoyed taking them.

We are back from a fabulous vacation on Vacouver Island, BC. We visited two coastal towns Tofino and Ucluelet and stayed in some fabulous accommodations (Thanks LivingSocial and Groupon). We hiked through old growth forests, went on a black bear boat tour, played on the beach, climbed rocks and had a relaxing time. The girls were great on the 9 hr journey. They loved the ferry and we entertained them in the car with kids books on cd (Susan Sarandon is a fabulous narrator). Attached are my favorite photos from the trip. Enjoy.

Hello all,

Apologies for the 1 1/2 year sabbatical from posting. As you know there have been lots of changes to the Langdon clan. Sophia is now 4 and she has a beautiful little sister to share her clothes and toys with, Vivian Colleen Langdon. I am attaching some photos from our recent adventures. Vivian is now 7 months old. I will post older photos but wanted to get the newest ones on here as soon as possible for everyone to enjoy.

Sophia turns 3!

Can't believe it, but Sophia turned 3 on Sunday. My how time flies. It was a happy, crazy, hectic weekend with parties, family and more parties. Jesse's sister Elizabeth took the train from Portland and stayed with us through the weekend. It was a lot of fun. We couldn't have asked for a better day for her birthday. It was gorgeous and we celebrated at Shoreview Park by our house with close friends and family. Everyone brought their bikes and scooters, we played frisbee, ate cake and the kids rolled down the big hill. We missed our families in Sedona, Portland and Austin. We wish you could have been here to celebrate with us. Sophia is a very lucky little girl.

Spray Park

What a gorgeous weekend. This Sunday we ventured up to Mt Rainier to hike to Spray Park, an alpine meadow, in the foothills of Mt Rainier. It was a gorgeous day and we were feeling like 6 miles was a good hike to do with a 3 yr old. ;-)It wasn't too bad. Sophia actually walked most of it, off and on, and napped for a hour in between. The hike was deceivingly flat at first and then BAM! all switchbacks and uphill to the top. But the hard work was worth it. Check out the amazing shots Jesse took of Rainier, the family and Mowich Lake. The pictures are gorgeous but they don't do justice to being there in person. Definitely someplace to go again and again. Enjoy!

Sophia is really digging her new school. I just went to the parent open house this evening and let me tell you, she is one busy kid. Besides painting, napping and being a 2 and 1/2 yr old, she is taking Spanish every Friday, computer everyday, music on Thursdays and YOGA starting next month. I think I am going to quit my job and go back to preschool, she has a pretty exciting day. In addition to her school day, we have signed her up for creative dance (ballet) on Mondays. She LOVES this class and it is the cutest thing we have ever seen. 7 little blonde girls in black leotards, ponytails, tights and ballet shoes. Head exploding from cuteness now! I was able to grab a photo of Sophia this Monday right before we headed out to class. Enjoy the cuteness.

Sophia's First Day at Preschool

It has been an exciting morning. Sophia started her first day of preschool. She was cool as a cucumber as her parents fussed over her and made sure everything was just right for her first day. There were no tears, on either side, Jesse did get a little choked up when he saw her cubby. "Sophia L." Sniff-sniff. She jumped right in with her new classmates and couldn't wait to start her day.

International Kite Festival-Long Beach, WA

We had a grand adventure yesterday. We made our way down to the coast for the International Kite Festival in Long Beach, WA. It was truly a sight. Over 1,000 kites in the air at the same time. Most of them were for show, but others were being judged for speed, precision and design. In addition to the kite festival, we were able to connect with one of Jesse's old friends from high school, Indus, who lives in Long Beach. Fun was had by all. Enjoy the fantastic shots Jesse took.

Blueberries

Hello all. Today was a funfilled day with our friends Ms. Erin and her son, Lucas. We drove out to Snohomish farm country and went blueberry picking. It was a bumper crop this year. Sophia and Lucas ate their weight in blueberries, I don't think one even went in their buckets. Jesse and I walked away with a haul and for those who come to visit be prepared for all sorts of blueberry delicacies. I got some great shots of the kiddos.

Check out the video and pics from the STP bike adventure with Roger. We completed 202 miles from Seattle to Portland. 31 miles of hills, rain, scorching sun and one sore butt (I cannot speak for Roger "Iron Hiney" Langdon). It was hard, but we had lots of fun.

We are safe and sound back in Seattle after our whirlwind tour of London. Jesse survived the flight into London with Sophia. He deserves the "Dad Of the Year" award. Santa slogged his way through the snow and rain to bring Sophia her gifts. Sophia was such a good girl. She got lots of wonderful toys and as I type she is feeding her penguin and new doll, Natalie, and cutting up her fruits and vegetables, making sure her baby is snug in her new crib and drawing on her new chalkboard. Lots of things to keep a little girl busy. We are missing our family and friends in Arizona and Texas. Day 5....Captain's log...stardate December 21st 2008....last night 6-8 inches of snow blew in from the north and blanketed our neighborhood. We are in the house building a fire and trying our hardest not to go bonkers. Sophia is totally digging it, she has her parents undivided attention and we are trying our best to find new and creative things to do. But you can only dance around the house, color pictures and watch so many episodes of Sophia's favorite cartoon, Pocoyo before you SNAP! Sophia made her first gingerbread house this weekend. Our local grocery store had a gingerbread decorating event, they provided the pre-made house and all the fixings. I am so excited; I have to type this real time. It is 10 pm, Sophia is sound asleep and we have just elected a new president, a man who has made history. Our daughter will get to see change happen over the next 4 years and we will be able to tell her we made history by casting our vote. Our friends, Chad and Anouk, joined us for dinner and drinks and watched as Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech. At this moment, I am hopeful and proud to be an American.

Sophia was pretty sick last week, but she rallied Friday to go trick or treating with her buddies, Alexandra and Claire. We kept up with our Halloween tradition and went to Ballard for tricks and treats. It wasn't until the girls got into their candy that the fun really began for the parents. Hello all. It's been a beautiful start to fall here in Seattle. The leaves are a brilliant shade of yellow, orange and crimson. Summer is officially over. The days are getting shorter and the rain is rolling in on a daily basis. Refusing to be trapped in the house this Saturday, we hiked in the rain to Boulder River Falls. We were the only people on the trail. Sophia loved running through the puddles and playing in the rain. It's not the best conditions to hike in but it was worth it, the falls were beautiful. We sat under a large Doug Fir, ate our lunch and enjoyed the falls. Here are some shots from the trip. Also included are some shots of Sophia this morning helping her dad in the yard. I couldn't resist pulling the camera out...she was the picture perfect child of fall.

Farm Tours

Greetings! So much to share. We recently celebrated the start of fall with a farm tour of the Hood River Valley in Oregon and the Snohomish Plateau in Seattle. Farms in these areas open their "doors" for the community to harvest their fruit and vegetables. Hood River celebrated the pear harvest. We gorged ourselves on BBQ, cobbler and pears. In Seattle we visited the farm animals, walked through the corn mazes and enjoyed the beginning of fall.

Well, summer is drawing to a close and we are one month closer to being the parents of an official 2 year old. This has been an eventful summer. Sophia has earned her hiking stripes, she has braved a Texas summer to deliver some TLC to her PaPa and she survived her cousins babysitting her (her cousin Maddie did an excellent job). Sophia's been really lucky this summer, our next door neighbors have shared their backyard toys with her. Her favorite is the combo choo-choo/rollercoaster and the tiny tyke buggy. In addition to playing with the toys, she loves sticking her head in the sprinkler and running around the yard in her bathing suit.

New Bathroom

Hello all...we are pleased to announce the completion of our bathroom. We gutted the entire thing and replaced everything except the tub. Jesse has been working on the backyard for the past 3 summers. It is now complete and amazingly beautiful. Jesse would say there is still work to be done. :-). Jesse's dad, Roger, came up Memorial Day weekend and they worked for two days to complete the flagstone patio. I am including photos from the weekend, which include Sophia helping her pa and dada.

Olympic Coast Vacation

We've been back 2 weeks. Time has flown by and I haven't had time to put photos from our vacation on the blog. Sophia is taking a nap so I am going through and updating the blog with all of our recent adventures. Included are photos from our trip to the Olympic Coast. We hiked the Hoh Rainforest, played on the wild beaches and relaxed by the shores of Lake Quinault. Sophia is quite the hiker. She loves the outdoors and can't get enough walking in the forest.

Grandma Sue visits Seattle

Sophia's grandmother from Sedona made the trek from Arizona to visit Sophia. Sophia got to spend some quality 1:1 time with her grandma eating biscotti, reading and doing lots of walking. During the visit we visited the market, ate fabulous Pacific NW cuisine and caught a glimpse of harbour porpoises in the Puget Sound. Check out the pics from the trip.

Hello all...Jesse, Sophia and I made our way to Winthrop in the Methow Valley for a lovely stay at Sun Mountain Lodge http://www.sunmountainlodge.com/. We rolled in high style in our gas guzzling Dodge Charger which was promptly snubbed at the Land Trust Conference. As much as I would have loved to drive a Prius the Charger was pretty swank. Jesse gave a talk and Sophia and I lounged around the lodge. The lodge is nestled between the Methow Valley and the Cascade Mountain Range. We hiked, slept and ate great food, what more could you ask for in a vacation. Check out our favorite photogs below. Enjoy.

The Zebra has arrived

Sophia got a big surprise today. Her zebra from Texas arrived along with some other goodies.
When I opened the box, I unpacked everything except the zebra. I accidently hit the box and it started playing the music, she couldn't contain herself, she jumped up and down and wasn't content until I had the whole thing together. I was able to capture her excitement on camera. Enjoy.

Happy Easter to each of you. Jesse, Sophia and I spent a lovely day in the house watching the rain outside. Inside we colored pictures, napped and played with all of Sophia's toys. We are SO ready for Spring! We also played around with the camera and took pictures of Sophia in her Easter dress. It's great carrying on the tradition of pretty dresses for Easter. We topped off the day's festivities with the traditional Easter pizza. Enjoy the photogs of Sophia and the great video of her snacking on gold fish and talking back to the camera.

Spring is on the horizon

After months and months and months of rain....Mother Nature gave us a preview of Spring. We went to one of our favorite places, Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, for a short hike and to celebrate the sunshine. The birders were out and about, we saw a Great Horned Owl, a Woodpecker and several ducks which Sophia loves to point out and say "quack, quack." Sophia walked a good portion of the trail and pooped out at the very end. Enjoy the video and photos from today's adventure.

Last Monday we woke up to a winter wonderland. Jesse braved the slick roads and public transportation while I stayed home with Sophia. We ventured out to build a snowman and snowangels. Sophia was having none of it. She just stood there immobile, not really digging any of it. Check out the video, it speaks volumes of Sophias opinion of the snow.

We are officially back from Texas. We had a great trip. Sophia was royally spoiled by her cousins, aunt, uncle, and grandparents. She took her first steps for the entire Cuff clan and we even got it on film. See above. We had a fabulous time visiting with our friends Pam and Arlyn, their daughter, Alyson Sinclair; Megan and Wesley, their son, Carter and Ashley and Jason and their son, Simon. It was whirlwind trip and we caught it all with our FABULOUS new camera, enjoy!

Sophia Meets Santa, Dasher and Blitzen

Sophia had an opportunity to meet with Santa and his reindeer this past Sunday. We didn't have to stand in any long lines or hear babies screaming, it was very "un-Christmas Story". In fact, Santa was quite nice and the reindeer were very laidback. We tried to get Sophia to sit on Santa's lap, but the moment we backed away she let out a scream and that was that. Sophia Celebrates Diwali

Sophia celebrated her first Diwali on Saturday. We attended a party hosted by my friend and co-worker. It was a wonderful opportunity to get dressed up in kurtas and salwars, eat good food, meet new people and watch Sophia play with everyone's kids. She is certainly the social butterfly.

Diwali it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Light," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. Sophia is wearing a traditional Indian outfit called a chaniya choli.

Hello all, we visited the pumpkin patch last week with Sophia. We dressed in our winter finery and it was HOT! Don't let the pictures fool you, we were burning up and the pumpkins were a sight. Note to self: Do not visit the pumpkin patch 4 days before Halloween, unless you are looking for rotting, fetid pumpkins. We managed to find the one pumpkin in the field that wasn't decaying. Check out the pics. Sophia makes a great monkey. Thanks to her friend Carter, in Houston, for passing along the monkey costume. MONKEYS RULE!

Sophia's First Birthday!

Princess Sophia celebrated her first year on Planet Earth on October 14th, 2007. Her birthday is actually October 11th. We couldn't have the party during the work week so we had it the following Saturday. She celebrated in style surrounded by friends and family. Those who were not able to attend were sorely missed: her family in Texas, Arizona, and Oregon. Check out her chocolate face and crown. She digs the cupcakes! Can't say we blame her.

Stop the presses! The Langdons in Seattle blog is now open. We will be posting exciting up-to-the-minute updates on the topsy-turvy lives of Danielle, Jesse, and our daughter Sophia.

We've actually created this blog because Jesse screwed up our original Flickr photo site, so we have to start over and thought "Hey, why not join the 21st century and blog?"
